Konovo Tunnel: Hermi Fast Klick® Cable Trays

In the Konovo Tunnel, the main structure on the new access road to the expressway between Velenje and Slovenj Gradec, acid-resistant stainless steel Hermi Fast Klick® cable trays were used for cable routing.
The solution was selected because of the demanding tunnel environment, where cable management components must withstand moisture, condensation, salt, exhaust gases, tunnel cleaning processes and chemically contaminated dirt for decades.
The almost 0.5-kilometre tunnel is a single-tube, two-way tunnel with two traffic lanes. It was opened in spring 2026 as part of the new link road, which is approximately 1.8 kilometres long.
Materials used in the tunnel cable management system must retain their load-bearing capacity over the long term and provide corrosion resistance.
In tunnel environments, cable routes are exposed to moisture, condensation, salt, exhaust gases, cleaning processes and chemically contaminated dirt. The materials used must therefore be resistant to corrosion, retain the load-bearing capacity of the system and ensure reliable cable routing over an extended period.
Reliable cable routing is essential in a tunnel for the operation of lighting, ventilation, traffic signalling, fire safety systems, sensors, communication cabling and video surveillance. User safety, traffic control and maintenance of the structure all depend on these systems, which is why the cable routing must be clearly arranged, stable and made from materials suitable for demanding tunnel conditions.

Durable materials for demanding tunnel conditions
More than 500 metres of acid-resistant stainless steel Hermi Fast Klick® cable trays were used in the Konovo Tunnel.
More than 500 metres of acid-resistant stainless steel Hermi Fast Klick® cable trays, 60 mm high and 200 mm wide (88754032), were used in the Konovo Tunnel. The trays allow fast installation and are connected to each other using a click system, without special tools or extensive use of screws. The cable trays were used for cable routing on the ceiling and tunnel arches, as well as in the concrete cable duct. Threaded rods and mounting profiles were used for ceiling installation.
In the concrete cable duct, which was later closed, the Hermi Fast Klick® cable trays were secured with more than 500 acid-resistant stainless steel NKP-SNT 210 wall brackets (88704742), designed for the installation of 200 mm wide trays.
This configuration ensures stable fixing of the cable trays, orderly cable arrangement and maintenance access through service manholes. Since fastening elements in tunnel environments must also retain their mechanical stability over the long term, the choice of acid-resistant stainless-steel brackets was essential.

Fixing cable trays in the concrete cable duct

Earthing and equipotential bonding

Earthing and equipotential bonding components used in tunnel environments must remain durable over the long term and provide reliable performance, as they contribute to the protection of people, equipment and electrical installation systems. Almost 1.5 kilometres of RH1 stainless steel flat conductor was installed in the tunnel as part of the earthing system. It was fixed with ZON03 wall fasteners made of stainless-steel sheet, suitable for installation on solid walls and for conductors measuring 30 × 3.5 mm.
KON1 S cross clamps (50412) were used for measuring and other connections between flat conductors below and above ground, as well as for equipotential bonding.
Acid-resistant stainless steel Hermi Fast Klick® cable trays, the corresponding brackets and stainless-steel flat conductor provide a durable electrical installation solution for the Konovo Tunnel. The system ensures orderly cable routing, stable fixing, earthing and long-term resistance in demanding tunnel conditions.
